GREATER THAN THE SUM
In January LUCEO presented an exhibition at 25CPW in NYC that challenged the traditional gallery model. First, we combined work from all members into one multilayered 163 foot long run that spanned the entire walls of the gallery.
Next we asked our audience to collaborate by the deciding the finished work. The audience purchased CUTS instead of prints, with numbers provided to determine place. Each person with a CUT was then given a pair of hand-forged scissors to literally cut the 24" section they wanted. It was a lively and raucous affair. The audience destroyed the exhibition in order to complete the final work of art.
Once each CUT was finished, LUCEO authenticated, editioned and had each member sign in before being wrapped and packaged. All CUTS sold out. The only remaining artifact are a handful of limited edition catalogues that capture elements of the runs in multiple gatefolds.
